About NCVRMA

The North Carolina Vacation Rental Managers Association (NCVRMA) is a professional trade organization dedicated to the development, standards and economic well being of the vacation rental industry. The NCVRMA is made up of members from the mountains to the coast, mainly in resort destinations, who manage properties owned by individuals from all over the country. Associate members support the rental management firms with their products and services ranging from linens to phone services to web site hosting. Our management companies vary in size from those with just a few rentals to some with more than 1,000 vacation rental properties.

Winter in Blowing RockThe purpose of the NCVRMA is to provide education for its members; to foster member support and networking, and to be pro-active to legislative issues which affect our industry. The NCVRMA works with other associations in the state including the North Carolina Association of REALTORS, the North Carolina Real Estate Commission, The Division of Tourism, Film and Sports Development, The Vacation Rental Housekeeping Professionals, regional Visitor's Bureaus and the national Vacation Rental Managers Association.

Through the efforts of the NCVRMA, vacation rental management has become a fully recognized and respected industry. Lawmakers and regulators are becoming more aware each day of the economic impact we have throughout North Carolina. An independent research study has been commissioned by the NCVRMA to quantify those numbers. With your support, our membership will grow so that our efforts and recognition can reach into all areas of the state. As our industry continues to grow, the lawmakers and regulators have become more open to our ideas and have forwarded legislation and regulatory changes that have greatly benefited each of us in our businesses.

The Vacation Rental Act defines vacation rentals and spells out such issues as eviction, dealing with trust accounts, the handling and disbursement of security deposits, the responsibilities of landlords in the habitability of rental homes and the issuance of refunds in the event of hurricanes and other events. The ability to pay non-licensed travel providers a commission for procuring tenants (GS 93A-3) has been made into law; the NCVRMA is actively working toward defining the regulations that will define this law. Other changes and issues in which the NCVRMA has been on the forefront of include Security Deposit Waiver Insurance, and credit card convenience fees. Many more issues are expected to come before us in the coming years.

Your support and involvement is critical to the NCVRMA's ability to be an agent of change for the benefit of our industry. We invite you to join our organization and to share any issues that you would like to see changed. This organization is for the benefit of all vacation rental management firms. Together, we can be a very strong voice of the Vacation Rental Management industry in North Carolina and beyond.
